Pope appeals for peace in Libya, Ivory Coast
April 06, 2011
Pope Benedict XVI made an “urgent appeal” for an end to the fighting in Libya and Ivory Coast, during his regular public audience on April 6.
“Violence and hate are always a defeat,” the Holy Father said. “I therefore make a renewed and heartfelt appeal to all parties to the cause to initiate a process of peacemaking and dialogue, and to avoid further bloodshed.”
The Pope said that he continues to follow developments in both African countries with “great concern.” He said that he hope Cardinal Peter Turkson—whom he had sent as his emissary to Ivory Coast—will soon be able to enter that country.
